March 2023 Installation instructions for Macintosh computers have changed since Mac no longer supplies Java with its computers, plus, Mac now charges developers an arm & leg for a signing certificate. (Since I haven't purchased a brand new computer, it took me a decade or so to figure this out.) So - the new versions of Lakefinder for Mac now are: 1. are more complicated to install, 2. have the necessary Java components attached, and 3. are signed by a third party for security. Here's the drill: Pick the correct version for your computer and download it. Note that there are two flavors, one for the older Intel based Macs and one for the new M1/M2 ("Apple silicone") Macs. Both versions are "tar.gz", meaning compressed and zipped. Once downloaded to your computer double click and file will expand into a folder containing the installer which is an "app" plus a file called "LakeFinderSounds". Double click the app and the installer will open with a splash screen (pretty blue fish) and will ask you if you want easy access icons on your desktop or dock - your choice. It will ask you also if you want "auto update". Pick On or Off - but there will never be any auto updates anyway so it doesn't matter. Finally, click Install. This puts ColoradoLakefinder 11 app into your local Applications folder. Note that this is not the universal Applications folder where the majority of applications live. It doesn't much matter but you are welcome to move it. But wait, you are not done yet. Note the LakeFinderSounds auxiliary folder containing .wav (sound) files and text files. The program will not run without these files so copy the LakefinderSounds folder into the same place as the ColoradoLakefinder application. Do not change the name of the folder or any of the contents. So, if your user name is "Shoe" - the default location of LakefinderSounds and ColoradoLakefinder 11.app will be in Shoe/Applications. Move them if you wish but keep them together. More fine print: ColoradoLakefinder is free and distributed without restrictions. Enjoy...
